As your summer break continues, the Career Services Office wants to remind you of some important dates to be mindful of throughout the summer.
2013 Fall On-Campus Interviewing
On July 1, 2013, students will receive information via your Duquesne e-mail address OR the email address you have added to your DuqLawConnect (Symplicity) account regarding the On-Campus Interview (OCI) process for Fall 2013, among other important items. Students who are interested in participating in Fall OCI are responsible for reviewing this information and acting accordingly by the posted deadlines. For your information, the important dates are as follows:
July 1, 2013: Students will receive OCI information via e-mail
Beginning July 1, 2013: Students may bid (ie, submit application materials) via DuqLawConnect for Fall OCI Sessions. Students should read each OCI posting to determine the application deadline for a particular law firm or organization. Application deadlines will vary depending on the interview date scheduled by the employer. The first application deadline will be on or before July 29, 2013. There are no exceptions to the posted deadlines.
August 12 – November 15, 2013: Fall OCI Interviews. NOTE: At the request of employers, interviews will begin on August 12, 2013.
Federal and State Judicial Clerkships
Students who are graduating in 2014 and are interested in judicial clerkships should become familiar with the application processes for the federal and state judiciaries. Many, but not all, federal judges follow the Federal Law Clerk Hiring Plan, which states that federal judges may begin to accept applications for law clerk and staff attorney positions, schedule interviews and make employment offers on June 28, 2013. This should be treated as the application deadline. Additional information about the federal application process can be found at www.oscar.uscourts.gov and on the Common Plea at www.duqlawblogs.org/cso.
The state judiciary in Pennsylvania does not have a similar hiring plan, but it is recommended that candidates applying for clerkships with the appellate or trial courts apply in Summer 2013 or early in the Fall 2013 semester. Additional information about various state court application processes can be found on DuqLawConnect (under the Shortcuts section) and on the Common Plea at www.duqlawblogs.org/cso.
Resume and Cover Letter Review
Please do not hesitate to forward your resume and cover letter to the CSO for review as you continue your job search. Whether you plan to apply for OCI positions, judicial clerkships or with any other employer, it is not a bad idea to use the summer months to revise and update your documents. Information about legal resumes and cover letters, including samples, can be found in the CSO Handbook, which you can find here under the Career Resources Section. Requests to review these materials should be forwarded to Maria Comas at email@example.com. Because of increased requests to review documents during the summer, please allow one week for the review of your documents.
