Women’s Bar Association “Miss Representation” Program

MISS REPRESENTATION:  A Call to Fight the Media’s Limiting Portrayal of Women and Girls and its Effect on Power and Influence

Allegheny County Bar Association 4th Annual Law Student Diversity Reception
October 3, 5:30-7:00 p.m., 9th Floor Koppers Building

Join the ACBA YLD, Homer S. Brown Law Division, Asian Attorneys Committee, Diversity Collaborative Committee, Hispanic Attorneys Committee and LGBT Rights Committee for an opportunity to meet diverse law students and attorneys.  RSVP by September 26 to Pam DeCecco at  The Koppers Building is located at 436 Seventh Avenue.

Allegheny County Bar Association Diverse Law Student Initiative Program Applications Due
October 11, by 12:00 noon

The Allegheny County Bar Association invites diverse 2nd and 3rd year students to participate in its inaugural Diverse Law Student Initiative Program (DLI). As the flyer describes, this initiative is geared towards assisting students with the development of professional leadership skills, making professional contacts and becoming involved in the community.  Students must be student members of the ACBA to participate. Student membership is available for $30, and you can simultaneously apply for student membership and the DLI.  The deadline to respond is October 11, 2013, at 12 noon.

October 18 – ACBA Young Lawyers Division Scavenger Hunt
October 18, 5:30 p.m., Bossa Nova (Downtown)
Meet attorneys and learn more about Pittsburgh by attending the YLD’s annual Scavenger Hunt!  Teams of 4 will look for clues around town and then meet-up with everyone for a reception and prize presentation.  The Scavenger Hunt is open to anyone so long as there is one ACBA member on the team. So as long as one person on the team has a student membership, three other people of any age, occupation, etc. can join them.  Additional details are located on the 2013-Scavenger-Hunt-Registration-Form.

Allegheny County Bar Association Toastmasters Open House
November 4, 12:00 noon, 9th Floor City-County Building
The ACBA Toastmasters Club is hosting an Open House for law students and lawyers learning more about the organization. The club focuses on strengthening public speaking skills for lawyers and law students.  The group will meet at the City-County Building (corner of Grant Street & Forbes Avenue).  Save the date!  Additional details to be provided.

Women’s Bar Association Judicial Reception
October 24, 4:45 p.m. – 6: 45 p.m., Carlton Restaurant (Downtown)
The WBA will host its 2013 Judicial Reception for all State and Federal Judges and WBA members at the Carlton on Thursday, October 24th from 4:45 to 6:45 p.m.  Student volunteers are needed to assist at the registration desk, and volunteers are welcome to attend the event and meet the judges and attorneys in attendance.  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Mary Frances Woods (3D) at

Corporate Law Panel

Matthew Mohn (Reed Smith) and Bill Ries (Tucker Arensberg), both experienced partners at their firms, will be providing insight into their legal careers. In addition to the these attorneys, Nicole Bechtold (Reed Smith) and Amy Tardiff (Tucker Arensberg), both newer associates at their firms, will give their prospective on the market and how they went about obtaining their jobs.

Professional Headshots Session

Professional Headshots * September 23 * 4:30-6:30 p.m. * Room 304

Are you taking the MPRE soon?  Are you on LinkedIn?  Do you need a professional photo of yourself?

Sign-up to get your photograph taken by a professional photographer!  For $10* you will receive an electronic link that you can access when you need to print a passport-sized photo to sit for the MPRE (current passport-sized photo required), post to your LinkedIn profile or use for any other purpose.

A sign-up sheet is located on the door of the Career Services Office.  Although advanced sign-up is not required, preference will be given to students who sign-up in advance when they arrive to get their photograph taken.

Professional shirt/suit jacket is recommended.

*100% of the proceeds collected will be donated to the SBA Centennial Endowed Scholarship Fund, in conjunction with funds raised at the SBA’s Katie Westbrook Race.   Checks payable to Duquesne University School of Law or cash accepted on or before September 23 in the Career Services Office.
