Law Alumni Receptions in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.

Students interested in working in Philadelphia or Washington, D.C., are invited to attend upcoming Law Alumni Receptions in these cities. If you are interested in working in either city, this is a great way to make connections there with our alumni.

Students are responsible for their own travel arrangements and expenses.

PSO Law Night

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO) invites students to the Fourth Annual Duquesne & Pitt Law Night – an evening of networking and music – on Friday, January 29 at Heinz Hall (Downtown). Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by “Rachmaninoff’s Third Concerto” at 8:00 p.m. Duquesne Law students’ tickets will be paid for by the Law School. Tickets must be reserved by submitting an RSVP on DuqLawConnect or sending an email to by Friday, January 22, at 5:00 p.m. Students may purchase guest tickets at a price of $45/ticket by calling Erin Lynn at the PSO at 412-392-3324. Students are responsible for their own parking/transportation costs.

1L Reception in Buffalo, NY

Are you a 1L student interested in working in Buffalo this summer or after you graduate from law school?  Hodgson Russ LLP is hosting a reception for students currently in their first year of study at a law school outside of the Buffalo area.  Meet attorneys practicing at Hodgson Russ, learn more about the firm and let them answer your questions about the practice of law in Western New York.

The reception will be held on Monday, January 4, 2016, from 5:00-7:00 p.m.  RSVP’s are due by Monday, December 21.  More information.

If you would like to receive 30 complimentary business cards, please complete an order form by Friday, November 13, at 6:00 p.m.

Judicial, Government and Public Interest Law Reception – RSVP’s Due 10/23!

Join us for the Judicial, Government and Public Interest Law Reception on Thursday, October 29, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the Power Center Ballroom (on-campus)!

The CSO and Office of Clinical Legal Education invites all students to attend this reception and meet judges and attorneys working in government agencies and public interest law organizations who will tell you about externship, clerkship, pro bono and career opportunities with their offices. RSVP required via DuqLawConnect – Events tab by October 23. Professional attire required.

Students are welcome to attend as much of the program as their schedule permits.  A list of judges and attorneys whose attendance has been confirmed will be posted on DuqLawConnect where you RSVP. The list will be updated as the event dates approaches.

Intellectual Property Student Reports Program – Seeking Student Applications

The Law Student Action Group of the ABA Section of Intellectual Property Law invites students to apply to our Law Student Reporters Program. Participants selected for the Program are given complimentary registration to the ABA Section of Intellectual Property Law’s 31st Annual Intellectual Property Law Conference in Bethesda, MD on April 6-8, 2016. During the event, students attend the Section’s premier CLE programs and network with Intellectual Property Law attorneys from across the nation while reporting on the content of the CLE programming via social media. This is a great opportunity for students to distinguish themselves in the area of Intellectual Property Law.  Applications for the program’s first round of decisions are due by Monday, November 9, 2015 at 5PM EST. Friday, October 16 * 1:00-3:30 p.m. * FedEx Ground Offices (1000 FedEx Drive, Coraopolis, PA 15108 – near IKEA)
Students are invited to attend a “Lawyers on Location” luncheon and tour of FedEx Ground’s Moon Township headquarters. Numerous FedEx Ground in-house counsel (including Duquesne Law graduates) will be there to answer questions, give advice and offer suggestions for you as you plan your legal career. This is an outstanding opportunity to build your network! The event is open to all students, and we encourage you to take advantage of the chance to learn more about the in-house counsel experience.

This Lawyers on Location is part of a continuing series developed by the CSO whereby students are invited to visit various workplaces to see the law in practice. Lunch will be provided and formal business dress is required. Students must provide their own transportation.

EMLF Kentucky Mineral Law Conference – Student Registration

Energy & Mineral Law Foundation (EMLF) Kentucky Mineral Law Conference – October 21 & 22, 2015 – Lexington, KY
As a member school, EMLF has offered 3 complimentary conference registrations to students interested in energy law. A complete conference agenda is attached. Attorneys from the Pittsburgh area, including some Duquesne Law alumni, will be presenting at this conference.  The Career Services Office must submit student registration forms in order to receive the complimentary registration.  The Career Services Office provides limited travel reimbursement for career-related conferences and career fairs.  Interested students must contact Maria Comas ( by October 7 at 6:00 p.m. if they plan to attend so additional information can be collected.

Peggy Browning Workers’ Rights Conference

Law students may attend the Peggy Browning Fund’s 17th Annual National Law Student Workers’ Rights Conference in Linthicum Heights, MD, on October 16 & 17, 2015.  Students who attend obtain a greater understanding of, appreciation for, and interest in the issues facing American workers.  The conference offers networking opportunities with other students, labor lawyers, professors, nonprofit practitioners and government officials.

The Career Services Office will reimburse students for their registration fee and some specific travel expenses associated with this conference. Student Registration Scholarship Available for Institute for Energy Law Conference

As a new member of the Institute for Energy Law, the Law School is able to provide a scholarship for one current student (any class level) to attend the Institute for Energy Law/EMLF 6th Law of Shale Plays Conference on September 10-11, 2015.  The conference includes two evening networking receptions as well as several seminars throughout the day. All candidates should be prepared to attend as many sessions as their academic schedule permits.  This is a wonderful way to network with local and national energy law practitioners.
